View Job DetailsWAAY-TV in Huntsville Alabama is hiring two Multimedia Journalists to work out of our Montgomery Alabama location for a new newscast we are producing for our sister station WCOV. These MMJ’s will be based in Montgomery and will provide content for all WCOV platforms along with WAAY platforms. This is an outstanding opportunity for motivated self starters looking to gain valuable experience while making a difference in the capital city.
We are looking for storytellers who love enterprise, building contacts, and owning state government. The job requires clear and conversational writing for reporting on how events in Montgomery impact local viewers..
The Multimedia Journalists will be live daily and have every resource needed to be successful.
Position Summary:
The Multimedia Journalist works with Newsroom leadership including Assignment Manager, Executive producer, and producer, to report, produce, shoot, write, voice, edit, upload, and present news content for all WCOV in a clear, compelling, and meaningful manner.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Reports news stories for broadcast and digital platforms.
Regularly covers the capital
Arranges interviews with people who can provide information about stories.
Pitches stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local community.
Receives assignments and evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideas.
Discusses issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities
Shoots and edits news events and news reports.
Writes package and voiceover copy, paying close attention to factual accuracy, grammar, and style.
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Skills:
Excellent communication skills with the ability to ad lib when required.
Experience in news reporting.
Consistent on-air presence.
Proficiency with video camera, non-linear editing, computers, smart phones, LiveU, and other digital news gathering equipment.
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Flexibility to work any shift.
