WJRT ABC12 is looking for a strong, creative Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) who is passionate about telling stories in the community.  We’re looking for a driven professional who wants to make connections in an incredible community – and be on the frontlines of big news stories.  The ideal candidate will have an eye and ear for compelling video and sound and ask critical key questions that our viewers want to know.  If you have what it takes, we want to hear from you.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• MMJ will be responsible for shooting, editing, writing, and posting multiple stories daily for broadcast and all WJRT's multimedia platforms under tight deadlines.
• The ideal candidate has a strong desire to turn the lead story every day.
• Pitch viable, developed story ideas
• Develop and cultivate sources.
• Solid news judgement
• Strong skills in posting to the web, engaging with viewers on social media, and gathering user-generated content are important.
• Ability to perform under various degrees of pressure and ability to switch gears quickly
• Hours, shifts, and responsibilities are flexible and are subject to change at the discretion of the News Director. 
• Must reside in the market area

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
• 2 years of experience as an MMJ in top 150 market.
• Excellent time management skills
• Applicants must be able to quickly develop contacts and work sources and be team players with strong communication skills.

JOB SUMMARY:
WJRT has an opening for a full-time Sports Anchor/Reporter to report the Sports segment during the week and Anchor on weekends.

If you want to read highlights, this is not the job for you. We are looking for a good storyteller. Seeking candidate who is passionate about covering the people and stories behind the highlights.

The selected candidate can anchor, report, write, producing, planning, story generation, web posting, videography, editing, and producing news stories from inception to completion professionally, as assigned, via our various and growing media channels, and all on deadlines.

WJRT is seeking a candidate that motivated and energetic! Has ability to channel that energy on local/collegiate sports.

Possess a strong sports broadcast coverage background.  Requires an individual to be able to switch gears quickly. The position includes working weekends and holidays. 

The selected candidate must demonstrate flexibility in the newsroom and on-air and present an energetic personality while delivering the news.

Duties include TV & online news stories that are professionally complete and compelling, anchor newscasts as assigned, present stories calmly and clearly and in a live capacity, appear at promotional functions, operate news equipment in a safe, professional manner, support news promotion, contribute regularly to news coverage and perform duties as assigned.

Selected candidate must also be a champion for online and social media efforts during a critical part of the day for our viewers.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Writes and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise manner.
• Assists Sports Director in writing/editing/researching/coordinating sports programming and other content.
• Responds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
• Works closely with the Sports Director in developing sports coverage.
• Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Set up/execute video live shots for sports.
• Maintains sports video equipment.
• Edits video for television broadcasts and content.
• Write stories for the website and other social media platforms.
• Interact with viewers and users on social media sites.
• Appear at various community events that may occur outside normal shift.
• Make public appearances on behalf of the station acting as an ambassador for the company.
• Must maintain professional appearance.
• Develop and cultivate sources.
• Solid understanding of legal and ethical issues impacting journalism.
• Post and interact with multiple social media platforms.

Working directly with the news team to build out our coverage and make it meaningful and relatable to our viewers. The person we hire must have a positive attitude and be an ambassador for the station by making personal appearances at community events. 

Writing compelling stories. Shooting and editing video. Live reporting in studio or in the field. Update social media accounts. Must be able to work under extreme deadlines pressure and respond to late changes. Available for unscheduled assignments in the mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned by News Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
• Superior on-air presence with at least 2+ years in Sports Reporting/Anchoring
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
• Develop story ideas, write, shoot, and edit sports/news stories for on-air broadcasting.
• Write in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner.
• Use the latest editing and photography tools to tell great stories.
• Ability to work under extreme deadline pressure and respond to late changes (be fluid).
• Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility.

Position would require relocation to the DMA.

WJRT is seeking a Photographer/Editor with strong storytelling capabilities. The Photographer is responsible for shooting and editing video for broadcast each day, communicating with show producers, and news reporters. The Photographer is also required to operate live equipment to facilitate real-time broadcasts from the field daily. We are seeking a self-motivated team member that wants to win each day and will do what is needed to succeed.   Versatility is a must!

You would be joining a newsroom that is energetic and expatiates breaking news, severe/disruptive weather, and daily investigative reporting. This is a full-time position with numerous benefits including medical, dental, vision, and accrued paid time off. 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILIITIES:

• Shoot news video that accurately and fairly represents news stories.
• Edit video and audio for broadcast, promos, and teases.
• Demonstrate sound news judgment and ability to tell stories with pictures and natural sound.
• Must be able to utilize non-linear editing equipment daily.
• Properly maintain camera, editing equipment, and station vehicle.
• Communicate with reporters, writers, and producers on video needed for news stories.
• Operate live ENG and Broadband live equipment and related vehicles.
• Keep track of edited news stories for broadcast; maintain archive.
• Respond to breaking news or urgent newsroom situations.
• Collect information by interviewing and taking notes as needed (e.g. news conferences)

• Observe all safety regulations in-house and when in the field.

REQUIREMENTS INLCUDE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO):

• One-year previous news photography experience is a requirement with experience lighting shots needed.
• Previous edit experience with EDIUS editing systems or equivalent required.
• Capable of gathering information and interviews when necessary; conduct online research.
• Ability to shoot and edit video in sequences that help tell the story for on-air and on-line.
• Knowledge of lighting and use of natural sound.
• Must be able to work well under pressure with limited supervision and daily deadlines.
• Strong initiative and attention to detail is required.
• Ability to remain positive and foster a positive work environment.t
• Understanding of and ability to follow and enforce the journalistic code of ethic.
• Must be capable of working well with others in challenging work environments to produce the best product for the viewer
• Must be able to walk for extended periods while carrying equipment, carrying up to 75 pounds
• This position will report to our Flint studio.
• Must be willing to reside in the DMA

JOB SUMMARY:
ABC12 is recruiting a high energy newsroom leader who is a storyteller at heart. In this role, the right candidate will anchor our highly successful weekend evening newscast, and MMJ three weekdays.

Must have the ability to work in a multi-platform environment and will contribute daily to our digital platforms, including social media and abc12.com. Applicant must have ability to perform as one-person-band MMJ for 3 weekdays. Must be comfortable on air or live in the field with breaking news.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Anchor weekend evening newscasts, and other newscasts as assigned. Work closely with producers to ensure story selection and quality of broadcast are clean, compelling, and consistent.

An Account Executive is responsible for handling all aspects of local accounts, developing new business, utilizing marketing skills and preparing/delivering client presentations. Manages and executes sales strategies which result in exceeding revenue targets in local, new business and digital revenue.

Ability to prospect, cold call and schedule face-to-face meetings with a creative compelling sales presentation.   Effective communication skills on all platforms.  We are seeking an experienced sales executive; this is not an entry level position.  THIS IS NOT A REMOTE POSITION.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Build, present, sell, and execute cross-platform advertising campaigns
• Create client re-caps, demonstrating delivery and effectiveness of advertising campaigns

• One-year prior news-producing experience (professional or college)
• Possess a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Broadcasting, English, Communications, or a related field.
• High level of communication skills, both written and verbal.
• The ability to remain calm under pressure.
• The ability to be mindful of and meet deadlines.
• The ability to multi-task and coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously.
• The ability to summarize information into easy-to-understand components.
• Must be available to work holidays, shifts that include nights, weekends, and overnights, and flexible with schedule to be available during breaking news.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with AP ENPS or Avid iNEWS.
• Knowledge of non-linear video editing systems.
• Knowledge of web-based publishing.
• Experience managing professional brands’ digital and social accounts.
