JOB SUMMARY:
WJRT has an opening for a full-time Sports Anchor/Reporter to report the Sports segment during the week and Anchor on weekends.

If you want to read highlights, this is not the job for you. We are looking for a good storyteller. Seeking candidate who is passionate about covering the people and stories behind the highlights.

The selected candidate can anchor, report, write, producing, planning, story generation, web posting, videography, editing, and producing news stories from inception to completion professionally, as assigned, via our various and growing media channels, and all on deadlines.

WJRT is seeking a candidate that motivated and energetic! Has ability to channel that energy on local/collegiate sports.

Possess a strong sports broadcast coverage background.  Requires an individual to be able to switch gears quickly. The position includes working weekends and holidays. 

The selected candidate must demonstrate flexibility in the newsroom and on-air and present an energetic personality while delivering the news.

Duties include TV & online news stories that are professionally complete and compelling, anchor newscasts as assigned, present stories calmly and clearly and in a live capacity, appear at promotional functions, operate news equipment in a safe, professional manner, support news promotion, contribute regularly to news coverage and perform duties as assigned.

Selected candidate must also be a champion for online and social media efforts during a critical part of the day for our viewers.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Writes and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise manner.
  • Assists Sports Director in writing/editing/researching/coordinating sports programming and other content.
  • Responds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
  • Works closely with the Sports Director in developing sports coverage.
  • Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Edits video for television broadcasts and content.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
  • Superior on-air presence with at least 2+ years in Sports Reporting/Anchoring

The Photographer is responsible for shooting and editing video for broadcast each day, communicating with show producers, and news reporters.   • Ability to shoot and edit video in sequences that help tell the story for on-air and on-line.
  • Knowledge of lighting and use of natural sound.

JOB SUMMARY:
WJRT is seeking an experienced News Photographer that is looking to make the jump into leading a video/photojournalism team. As Chief Photographer at ABC-12, you’ll mentor and coach a talented team of Photographers and MMJs, while also contributing your own creative skills to bring stories to life. You’ll report directly to the News Director.

You must have the ability to act professionally and maintain control in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment; be accustomed to changing gears on constant breaking news, updating news, and continued coverage for our viewers.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee, mentor, and evaluate a team of MMJs (Multi-Media Journalists) and Photographers; training programs and workshops to enhance skills in shooting, editing, storytelling, and newsgathering.
  • Regularly review broadcasts, stories, and digital content for quality, consistency, and alignment with editorial standards; advise and guide staff to improve visual storytelling.
  • Manage and maintain all newsgathering equipment, cameras, support gear, live transmission tools (e.g. LiveU).
  • Shoot, edit, and produce Voice Overs (VOs), Voice Over Sound on Tape (VOSOTs), and full packages for both broadcast and digital consumption, with accuracy, clarity, and journalistic integrity.
  • Collaborate closely with reporters, producers, and content producers to plan shoots, conceptualize stories, and execute creative vision using both video and natural sound.
  • Oversee the video library and assist in digitization and archiving of past content to ensure accessibility and compliance with station standards.
  • Plan and lead quarterly meetings for photography staff including performance reviews, workflow improvements, and new technology training.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcasting, communications or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. (Many similar roles require university-level credentials.)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in television broadcasting as a videographer/photographer/editor; at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in news videography and editing under tight deadlines; skilled in Edius, or comparable editing software; familiarity with LiveU technology.
  • Strong visual storytelling skills; ability to produce high-impact content with sound, video, voice over, package structure.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to operate news units.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds of equipment when necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

WJRT-TV/ABC12, Allen Media Broadcasting, ABC-affiliate in Flint, Michigan is seeking candidates for IT Manager. The qualified candidate will know how to maintain users within a Windows Active Directory domain environment. Expertise in Windows OS’ up to 11 Pro and Server 2022, including Database Systems is a must. Exercise the highest level of discretion. Advanced organizational skills. Strong ability to prioritize a constantly changing task list. Possess strong technical and networking skills with ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve complex problems and machine stoppages. Duties include hardware and software end-user support. Support/Diagnose/Repair various computer devices: workstations and peripherals and software problems. Broadcast Engineering knowledge, CISSP/CEH, Linux/Unix, Firewall, SAN/NAS and VMWare VSphere experience considered a plus.

This position includes on-call rotation, which may require weekend/holiday emergency work as needed.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The IT Manager is responsible for the proper operation of all information technology and related equipment and software at the station and for answering technology-related questions.
  • Install, configure and repair computer hardware, operating systems, and applications.
  • Perform regular maintenance to ensure networks operate correctly.
  • Troubleshoot local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and Internet systems.
  • Routine maintenance of hardware/software.
  • Performing software upgrades and file backups on the network daily, weekly, or monthly.
  • Solve IT problems promptly.
  • Assist computer users through phone, email, or in-person.
  • Support and train end users on computer hardware and software.
  • Assist with Broadcast equipment installation and setup.
  • Participate and oversee all aspects of information security.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering a related technology field or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Industry specific certification expected.
  • Cisco experience and certification are strongly desired.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in computer user support.
  • Time management skills and the ability to establish reasonable and attainable deadlines for resolution are required.
  • Flexibility to work any shift including nights/weekends.
  • Ability to work under extreme deadline pressure and respond to late changes (be fluid).
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere and behaving in a manner that will work well with co-workers, supervisors, and vendors.
  • You must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing.
  • This is not a remote work position. Work will normally be performed on-site.
