Chico is located in Butte County, approximately 90 miles north of Sacramento, 150 miles west of Lake Tahoe, and 160 miles from San Francisco. If you are passionate about news, telling real people stories, and holding the powerful accountable; we would love to talk to you. If you love the great outdoors; biking, hiking, skiing, boating and more, then you’ll want to talk to us. This position is responsible for generating original story ideas each day, understanding how to use social media in their story telling and gathering and posting to the station website each day.
What You'll Do
- Generate original stories and deliver them in an exciting and impactful way
- Go live multiple times each day, sometimes on separate stories
- Be ready to rock and roll on breaking news whenever it happens.
- Prepare, write, produce, report, edit, deliver and post news stories and content over multiple platforms
- Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research
- Knowledge and demonstration of editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws
- Perform various community service activities for station as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned
What You'll Need
Education and Experience
- Bachelors in journalism or the live experience equivalent
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and skill using ENPS.
- Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
- Knowledge of Edius editing systems, or similar editing equipment.
- Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.
- Proficient at posting content to various websites
- Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
- Able to lift and carry at least 55 pounds
Salary- $36,000-$40,000/ annually
$17.30-$19.23/hourly

Action News Now, CBS/NBC duopoly covering Chico/Redding, CA market has an opportunity for an energetic, highly skilled, relatable meteorologist to join our weather team.
View Job DetailsOur next meteorologist knows the science behind forecasting and can tell an easy to understand weather story. This person must be familiar with Augmented Reality and willing to innovate and create, not just “cut and paste” graphics. They must be cool under pressure and ready to go at a moment’s notice when it comes to severe, breaking weather stories.
Chico/Redding is in Northern California. We see extreme heat and wind conditions that are prime drivers for wildfires, some snow and rain with the possibility for flash flooding during those times.
It’s a great area to live, especially if you love being outdoors, with an abundance of parks, trails, mountains and bike paths.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Give our viewers the weather information they need and want with accurate, compelling and understandable storytelling and graphics.
-Give urgent, immediate, and accurate weather in times of severe weather, making sure our viewers are prepared, not scared.
-Must be digital savvy, using multiple social media platforms to get important information out.
-Will use not just regular graphics but also Live Lineups and Augmented Reality.
-Ready to go when there is a severe weather event, whether it’s inside the studio or in the field.
-Must have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of weather science and forecasting.
-Dynamic, authoritative presence on air that is relatable and easy to understand when giving out important, life-saving information.
EDUCATION:
-Minimum – Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology or related field experience.
-Some on air experience is required, either for your college station or professionally.
