News Sports Director/ Multi-Media Journalist

KHSL and KNVN TV in beautiful Chico, CA is looking someone to take a great sports department to the next level. If you have a passion for local sports, for telling stories and not just doing highlights then we want to talk to you. The successful candidate should be an engaging and creative storyteller.  Our next Sports Director will be a self-starter with a finger on the pulse of the local sports community and a social media wizard. This position will set the direction for the sports department.

 

There is an expectation of live shots from all on air talent. All on air talent must be able to write, shoot, edit and do their own live shots via TVU. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Delivery of scripted and ad lib material with professionalism, personality and purpose
  • Serve as a working sports reporter, working as an MMJ to cover local sports stories of importance to our community
  • Travel to sports events to gather and assemble stories
  • Strong writing and journalism skills are a must for this role
  • Ability to shoot and edit captivating stories
  • Able to run a TVU live kit
  • Previous experience writing for web and broadcast is required
  • Appear on behalf of stations at public events

 

Education:

College degree (in Journalism or related field preferred)

Technical Media Producer (TMP)

The TMP (Technical Media Producer) is responsible for directing live, miscellaneous station productions or pre-recorded productions as assigned, monitoring on-air streams, and FCC logs & ingesting daily programming & commercials into the paly-to-a

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:

  • Operation of Ross Overdrive Automation (including robotic cameras, audo console, graphics generator, and production switcher)
  • Managing on air playlist using automation system and responsible for all broadcast content
  • Daily tasks include commercial/promo ingesting, satellite operation, program ingesting and segmenting, and directing newscast
  • Responsible for EAS operations, maintaining transmitter logs, daily care & maintenance of studio equipment and news set
  • Work closely with all departments to meet daily demans and other duties as assigned

 

SKILLS REQUIRED/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master Control and production assistant experience required
  • Must have great communication & people skills
  • Strong problem solving & troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to multitask under time sensitive dealines 
  • Strong technical & computer skills highly recommended
  • Flexibility with scheduling & job assignments 
  • Understanding off FCC program logs & all FCC broadcast regulations
  • Willingness to learn new hardware & software

Digital Content Manager

Executive Producer

Action News Now, the number one station in Chico, CA is looking for a take-charge Executive Producer to help oversee its news product on air and online.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The EP will work closely with the News Director and the news team to produce highly relevant and high- quality newscasts across all platforms.

Help increase and develop local content and delivery in all day parts in a way that impacts our community.

This person will work with producers and reporters, giving critical feedback to help the newsroom and news team grow, including setting goals and helping them reach those goals.

Work with News Director in developing special projects and long-range objectives.

The EP will also meet with the ND weekly to go over his/her own professional progress.

Experience in working with and guiding both young and seasoned journalists.

Qualification Requirements:

Journalistic integrity and a strong ethical foundation

Have a valid driver’s license
