Our station is based in Chico, CA covering the Chico-Redding DMA (Market 132). Chico is located in Butte County, approximately 90 miles north of Sacramento, 150 miles west of Lake Tahoe, and 160 miles from San Francisco. The nor-Cal gem of Chico is home to California State University Chico, the 13th largest municipal park in the nation (Bidwell Park), Sierra Nevada Brewery and countless opportunities for outdoor and cultural entertainment. The energy of this quaint, vibrant college town plays a major role in our organization and the community thrives on local businesses, nearby treasures of Mount Shasta and Lassen National Park, and the gorgeous agricultural valley surrounding the area.

Action News Now is looking for a full-time Evening Editor to join our newsroom team. If you thrive under deadline pressure, work quickly and accurately, and want to grow in a fast-paced broadcast environment, we want to hear from you.
This position plays a critical role in helping us deliver high-quality local news to viewers across Northern California.
Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 2:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Full-time
What You’ll Do:

Edit news stories, VO/SOTs, packages, and special projects using Edius
-
Work closely with reporters, producers, and anchors to meet tight deadlines
-
Turn content quickly and accurately during breaking news situations
-
Manage multiple assignments at once in a high-pressure environment
What We’re Looking For:

Ability to work fast and stay calm under stress

Strong attention to detail

Basic experience with non-linear editing programs preferred

Willingness to learn — training will be provided

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Our 4PM show is built around strong local coverage and frequent live reports. The producer will craft a newscast that prioritizes the North State while also incorporating regional, state, national, and international stories — always framed through a local lens. We’re looking for someone who understands how to connect big stories to our viewers and clearly explain why they matter here at home.
What You’ll Do:

Lead production of the weekday 4PM newscast

Write clear, concise, viewer-friendly scripts under deadline pressure

Quickly digest complex press releases and turn them into understandable, compelling stories

Work closely with reporters and anchors to shape coverage and refine scripts

Maintain strong communication with field crews and newsroom staff throughout the day

Adjust rundowns quickly as breaking news and developments arise

Deliver balanced, fact-driven coverage with strong local impact
What We’re Looking For:

Excellent writing and communication skills

Ability to work quickly and stay calm under pressure

Strong news judgment and organizational skills

Leadership mindset — comfortable giving guidance, feedback, and direction

Ability to adapt quickly to changing news conditions
-
Understanding of basic government structure and civic processes is a plus

Experience with ENPS preferred (training provided)
Compensation & Benefits:

Pay range: approximately $19/hour

Preferred Qualifications:
- A. Degree in Journalism, Communications, or other field of study preferred
- Experience with website content creation and social media platforms – with clear, measurable results – is preferred
