KIMT Television is seeking a motivated multimedia journalist who is passionate about shooting, writing and editing compelling material for multiple platforms. You will be joining a team of storytellers in our Rochester, Minnesota newsroom creating both on-air and online content. Candidates should be self-starters who can multitask well under pressure while meeting tight daily deadlines.

A college degree is required. Previous experience in a television newsroom environment is preferred. Candidates must be able to shoot video and edit in a non-linear format. Live reporting from news scenes is also a big part of this job. Fill in anchoring is also a possibility.

newscasts utilizing the Ross Overdrive automation system. This is a rare opportunity to be a part

Duties/Responsibilities:
Direct live and recorded programming on Ross Overdrive automation system within
format guidelines including newscasts, commercial production and station promotions.

Operates video switcher, CG system, and video server. Assumes responsibility of
newscasts and other programs. Offers suggestions for improvement.

Create templates, scenes, and rundowns that function within the Ross Overdrive
automation system.
Design graphics for news set, weather set, monitors and backdrops using Ross XPression,
Adobe CC, among other tools. 
 Read, study and research scripts to determine how they should be directed.
 Confer and collaborate with managers, crew members, on air talent and producers to
discuss details of production.
 Manage studio including set materials, lighting, mic set-up, cameras and monitors.
 Responsible for ensuring all aspects of the program are complete before the program
begins. Plan details such as framing, composition, camera movement, sound, for each
shot or scene. Solves problems at the source. Challenges others to improve.
 Along with producer, establish pace of newscasts and sequences of segments according
to time requirements and accessibility. Ensures program runs smoothly during live
broadcasts.
 Handles last minute and unexpected changes in a professional, poised manner during live
broadcasts. Communicates calmly, quickly and clearly to all involved as needed.
 Maintains high knowledge of equipment. Notifies Operations Manager of equipment
needs and problems. Ensures equipment is maintained.
 Ability to relate and communicate in a productive manner to a variety of people including
on air talent, visitors, production crew, producers, creative services and management.
 Treats co-workers and visitors with respect.
 Report to work on time and work established schedule/hours.

Requirements:
 Previous experience with Ross Overdrive is a plus. 
 Ability to handle non-scripted breaking news environment is a must. 
 Ability to climb ladders to replace set lights is necessary. 
 Must be able to communicate effectively and work independently. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
 Must be open to working early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays as broadcast
shifts vary
 Must be able to lift 50 pounds

KIMT, the #1 station in Rochester, Minnesota, is looking for a positive, dynamic leader for our small but mighty newsroom. This role supports the Regional News Director in overseeing day-to-day newsroom operations and ensuring editorial excellence across all newscasts and digital platforms. The ideal candidate will bring a can-do attitude to the challenges and opportunities happening in our industry and inspire the team to rise to the occasion. They should be a jack of all trades, willing to produce, train, mentor, recruit and innovate. Ability to anchor is a must.

Key responsibilities:

·         Act as the newsroom leader in the Regional News Director's absence. 

·         Oversee daily news operations including editorial meetings, content planning, scheduling, and quality control. 

·         Provide editorial leadership and direction for all news broadcasts, breaking news, and special coverage. 

·         Oversee the execution and production of daily newscasts to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with station standards. 

·         Coach and mentor anchors, producers, MMJ’s, and other newsroom personnel.

·         Ensure content is posted to digital platforms.

·         Maintain and enforce high journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness, balance, and 

·         ethics. 

·         Be mindful of opportunities to increase morale, improve the working conditions of the team and promptly remove any obstacles that prevent productivity and a comfortable work environment.

·         Work with technical and production staff to ensure smooth, professional broadcasts. 

·         Monitor news ratings and audience trends; work with Regional News Director to adjust content strategies to grow and retain viewership. 

·         Ensure compliance with FCC regulations, company policies, and legal standards.

·         Must be willing to produce and anchor newscasts.

 

Qualifications: 

·         Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field. 

·         Minimum of 5 years of experience in a TV newsroom, including 2+ years in a supervisory or senior editorial role. 

·         Strong editorial judgment, especially in high-pressure or breaking news situations. 

·         In-depth understanding of television news production and newsroom operations. 

·         Familiarity with news management systems (e.g., ENPS, iNews) and video editing 

·         Strong leadership and coaching skills with a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset. 

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

 

Preferred Attributes

·         Positive, motivating leadership skills

·         Experience working in a medium to large market TV station. 

·         Knowledge of audience analytics tools and ratings systems (Nielsen, Comscore). 

·         Track record of successfully launching special reports, investigative stories, or digital-first initiatives. 

Work Conditions: 

·         Fast-paced newsroom environment with shifting priorities. 

·         May require evening, weekend, or holiday availability depending on news coverage 

·         demands.
