JOB SUMMARY: The executive producer manages the Rochester news producers, reporters, working closely with the news director to oversee daily newscasts and overall news content.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment to manage the Station’s Rochester news producers and reporters.

  • Gather, edit and rewrite news stories for newscasts.

  • Select and prepare news items for broadcast.

  • Collaborate with news producers and managers to conceptualize, produce and present content on newscasts and multiple media platforms.

  • Oversee all newscast producers, making sure they meet research goals and the mission of being the go-to source for weather, breaking news and enterprise/in-depth content.

  • Manager the editorial and creative development and coverage of assigned stories to MMJs and producers.

Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to interact well with video journalists, anchors, videographers, news managers, production and engineering staff.

  • Detail oriented; proficient in non-linear editing.

  • Excellent verbal, written, grammar and analytical skills. 

  • Strong news judgment, journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations. 

  • Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media. 

  • Ability to meet quality standards for service & evaluate customer satisfaction. 

  • Proficient in non-linear editing. 

Education/Experience: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, TV/film or equivalent experience may substitute + 5 years experience in television or radio broadcast/production.  

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: 

High stress environment with deadline pressures. Some travel may be required on an occasional basis.

-Oversees writing, production, and timing of broadcast or on-line publication.
-Define strategic direction for content coverage to meet business objectives.
-Manage news room, contribute to the editorial process and make solid decisions in breaking
news situations.
-Monitor postproduction processes to ensure accurate completion of details.
-Execute strategies that engage and grow audiences across all digital devices.
-Write, produce and edit material that appeals to target audiences.
-Research production topics using the internet, video archives, and other information sources.

KIMT Television is seeking a motivated multimedia journalist who is passionate about shooting, writing and editing compelling material for multiple platforms. You will be joining a team of storytellers in our Rochester, Minnesota newsroom creating both on-air and online content. Candidates should be self-starters who can multitask well under pressure while meeting tight daily deadlines.

A college degree is required. Previous experience in a television newsroom environment is preferred. Candidates must be able to shoot video and edit in a non-linear format. Live reporting from news scenes is also a big part of this job. Fill in anchoring is also a possibility.
