WAAY-TV in Huntsville has an immediate opening available for a Full-Time Production Assistant.
Responsibilities include operation of television studio, control-room, and other production equipment - including but not limited to audio boards, character generator and related graphics software, studio cameras, microphones, studio lights, teleprompter, video editing systems assist in the production of news and programming, both live and recorded, for on-air and online presentations. Training is available.
Must be available to work weekends and semi-flexible schedule.
A college degree is required with a preferred focus on Journalism or related form of writing. The right entry-level candidate will receive full consideration.
As the world of TV news changes, the ideal candidate should be well-versed in the many aspects of Journalism, focusing on producing and publishing content where news consumers are, both online and on-air. A skill in developing contacts through social networking and a talent for non-linear editing are both a plus.

WAAY-TV, the 2022 and 2023 Alabama Television Station of the Year, is looking for an outstanding individual and on-air performer to join the weather department as Meteorologist. Top candidates must have superior skills for forecasting and on-air presentation while being a positive part of an outstanding team of Meteorologists in a beautiful, rapidly growing market. This market is known for its breaking weather. WAAY-TV is home to the nation’s largest privately owned radar network and the region’s most advanced weather tracking unit, providing the ability to produce and deliver weather reports live on location. Involvement in community and appearances at station-sponsored events is necessary.
Sustained, breaking weather experience is a preferred, delivering high-quality information on-air, on digital, social and through the OTT stream. This individual is expected be a leader in the newsroom dedicated to professional growth and leadership. The ideal candidate should possess skills necessary to become engaged on social media, realizing the importance of leading in weather coverage both on-air and on-line. Live shots, presentations to students and groups, and interaction with those we serve at station-sponsored events throughout the DMA is an expectation. Knowledge of Weather Company (IBM) system tools, WSI Max, and possessing the ability to enhance graphics and maps while providing exceptional live reporting skills from the field are necessary.
Requirements include:
- BA/BS degree in meteorology, science or equivalent
- Experience as an on-air meteorologist highly preferred
- AMS/NWA seal is preferred; otherwise, we will assist you in obtaining your seal
- Outstanding communication and technical skills various weather programs

You will be responsible for story selection and placement, while working to create graphics and special elements to enhance a viewer's experience. You'll work with the Executive Producer and Creative Services department while using your creative freedom to create a compelling storytelling experience. In this job, you'll work alongside a supportive team of dedicated and award-winning journalists with a passion to serve their viewers. Excellent communication skills are required.
