WJRT-TV/ABC12, the Allen Media Broadcasting owned, ABC-affiliate in Flint, Michigan is seeking an individual television station is seeking a Traffic Assistant.  This position will be responsible for coordinating, entering, monitoring and maintaining on air commercials.  Position enters broadcast sales orders for commercial contracts and promotional spots.  This includes continuity, copy, and clearance of the daily program logs.  Ability to providing separation for conflicting advertisers and inventory usage in the trafficking system is necessary.  Front loading logs to insure maximum inventory usage.  Coordinate with Account Executives to assure proper traffic scheduling. This position provides additional support to other departments as needed. Backup other Traffic Department positions and carry out other duties as assigned.   

Candidate must possess strong communication, organizational skills, and traffic management experience.   

Applicant should be comfortable in a fast pace multiple deadline environments with rapidly changing priorities and a high volume of projects.  Individual must be a team player with strong initiative, work ethic, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  Provide the willingness to work overtime when needed.  Possess the ability to navigate using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Candidate should have minimum of two year college degree.  Two years of experience in broadcast television/sales traffic strongly preferred but will train the right candidate.  Prefer 3 years + experience in fast-paced, interactive office environment or combination of education and experience equivalent to degree.  Knowledge of WideOrbit traffic system a plus. 

Ability to work under extreme deadline pressure and respond to late changes (be fluid).

  • Have expert knowledge regarding equipment, technology, and systems and be able to step in and assist in emergency situations
  • Performs regular maintenance tasks including repairs, equipment replacement, supplies, etc.
  • Documents and executes necessary corrective actions
  • Ensures all transmission equipment is operating correctly before and during live event telecasts - corrects and documents technical problems and reports them to the managers
  • Maintains station live vehicles, including satellite trucks
  • Maintains building needs
  • Have working knowledge of the latest operating systems software, including server and desktop operating systems
  • Familiar with networking routing and IP addressing
  • Must be available to work during breaking news situations, severe weather, new system integrations and updates.
  • Display and maintain professional appearance, based on station standards and professional demeanor
  • Must have a background / previous working experience in engineering

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • 2-3 years of professional or broadcast experience. Strong leadership skills and ability to operate in high pressure situations
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related is preferred, but is not required
  • Commanding knowledge of broadcast video equipment and techniques

The person we hire must have a positive attitude and be an ambassador for the station by making personal appearances at community events.  This position will include weekends.

Constructing a clear accurate forecast for weekend newscasts.  Writing compelling stories.  Shooting and editing video.  Live reporting in studio or in the field.  Update social media accounts.  Must be able to work under extreme deadlines pressure and respond to late changes.    Be available for unscheduled assignments on morning, nights, weekends and holidays as assigned by News Management.

Degree in meteorology or similar degree.
