Traffic Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Traffic Specialist supports the traffic operations for KITV4, ensuring that all commercial and programming inventory is managed in accordance with all corporate policies and procedures, FCC guidelines, and network requirements. The Traffic Specialist supports the Traffic Manager oversee logs, and work with sales and other departments to maximize revenue for the station.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain commercial inventory traffic system.

  • Work inventory to maximize all avails.
  • Ensure that inventory control runs correctly.
  • Ensure that daily program logs are produced in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain an accurate 13-week commercial avail projection.
  • Coordinate with sales by monitoring avails and informing sales management of current, future, or changed inventory and/or programming.
  • Inform and coordinate with General Manager and department head regarding programming changes.
  • Respond to Master Control to resolve any issues with logs.
  • Ensure accuracy of coding / rates for commercial orders.
  • Manage Wide Orbit formatting / program grid formatting.
  • Assist in creating & assigning materials to orders and applying rotations of commercials on air.
  • Implement fulfillment of affiliate, swap and syndicated contracts.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 2 years in radio/traffic experience or similar professional experience.
  • Experience with Wide Orbit strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work with a high level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Work effectively in a team environment, maintaining a positive rapport with staff, management and clients.
  • Proven record of dependability and willingness to work some evenings or weekends as workload requires.
  • Capable and willing to resolve unexpected problems and be flexible to manage unscheduled changes.
  • A high level of proficiency with computers, software and new technologies.
  • Able to manage stress effectively.
  • Possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
  • Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.

News Producer Mornings

KITV, Inc., the ABC affiliate in Honolulu, HI is looking for a full-time newscast producer. The news producer is responsible for creating a newscast from top to bottom and managing it throughout the day.

Job Responsibilities:

The producer will research and write news stories for television, web and mobile. Create graphics and assist reporters with story development. Create a newscast that is compelling and meets the objective and strategy of the news department /station. Present story ideas in daily editorial meetings with emphasis on enterprise stories. Assist with other news projects as assigned. 

Qualifications Requirements:

Strong writing skills. Solid editorial judgment along with knowledge of local, national and world news. High journalistic ethical standards. Understands the need for urgency and accuracy. Can multi-task and work under pressure, especially in breaking news situations. Must have a passion for news and competitive winning spirit. Willing to take risks in the name of creativity in storytelling and presentation. Understands how to maximize visuals and video editing principles. Works well with others. Good communication skills.  Flexibility to work any shift as news is a 24-hour operation.

Education:

  • Degree in broadcast journalism, broadcast news or related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum two years of broadcast news experience, preferably as a line producer.
  • Must be an excellent writer, use good grammar, adheres to AP Style.
  • Previous experience producing new series and special projects.
  • Knowledge of ENPS newsroom software is a plus.
  • Experience working with automation production.
  • Knowledge of digital platforms and use of social media.

Job Responsibilities:

The journalist must cultivate sources and contacts to produce enterprise and general assignment stories.

  • Gathering and verifying factual information regarding stories
  • Be a creative storyteller.
  • Shoot video/still photos and edit to illustrate stories
  • Produce vo, vosot, and video packages that include reporter’s voice and image.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment
  • Knowledge of broadcast non-linear editing equipment
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
  • Excellent interviewing skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
  • Must exercise sound editorial judgement and operates by highest journalistic ethics and libel laws
  • Valid Driver's License, good driving record and provide proof of insurability with company required insurance limits
  • A passion for news plus producing compelling and engaging stories.

Education:

  • Four-year college degree (Journalism preferred)

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience working as a journalist inside a television newsroom
  • 1-2 years of experience as a Multi-Media Journalist in a television newsroom.
  • Previous sports reporting and/or weathercast experience a plus.
