JOB SUMMARY

Are you a show crafter, who uses every tool in the tool chest to develop a fast-paced, informative, and focused newscast?  Do you strive to make each newscast better than the last? WJRT is looking for a producer. Candidate must be highly creative with quick and concise decision-making abilities; possess a track record of strong news judgment and a winning competitive attitude; unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards a must.  You must have the ability to act professionally and maintain control in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment; be accustomed to changing gears on constant breaking news, updating news, and continued coverage for our viewers.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create newscasts, select, research, and write content for live newscasts.
  • Communicating, coordinating, and executing creative vision with a team of anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff.
  • Build content in unique and compelling ways using the many tools and technology available.
  • Working knowledge of current events and community issues.
  • Enhance content with graphics, video research, and station branding.
  • Oversee all aspects of the content and presentation of a newscast.
  • Work closely with the news team for accurate and interesting news information on all platforms.
  • Passion for production and storytelling, combined with an unwavering commitment to journalistic ethics and standards.
  • Willingness to grow by taking direction and excelling as a team member.
  • Adapt to breaking news and developing stories.
  • Generate story ideas and collaborate with news staff on promotable story ideas.
  • Assist fellow producers in formatting other newscasts.
  • Edit video and perform other duties when assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One-year prior news-producing experience (professional or college).
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Broadcasting, English, Communications, or a related field.
  • High level of communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • The ability to be mindful of and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to multi-task and coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • The ability to summarize information into easy-to-understand components.
  • Must be available to work holidays, shifts that include nights, weekends, and overnights, and flexible with schedule to be available during breaking news.


PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with AP ENPS or Avid iNEWS.
  • Knowledge of non-linear video editing systems.
  • Knowledge of web-based publishing.
  • Experience managing professional brands' digital and social accounts.

The hours, shifts, and responsibilities are flexible and are subject to change at the news director’s discretion.
Involvement in station initiatives and station events is necessary. This is a full-time position offering competitive salaries with a competitive benefit package that includes medical/dental/vision plans.

JOB SUMMARY:
An Account Executive is responsible for handling all aspects of local accounts, developing new business, utilizing marketing skills and preparing/delivering client presentations. Manages and executes sales strategies which result in exceeding revenue targets in local, new business and digital revenue. Ability to prospect, cold call and schedule face-to-face meetings with a creative compelling sales presentation. Effective communication skills on all platforms. We are seeking an experienced sales executive. This is not an entry level position.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build, present, sell, and execute cross-platform advertising campaigns.
  • Create client re-caps, demonstrating delivery and effectiveness of advertising campaigns.
  • Maintain and sell existing TV and digital accounts.
  • Prospect and sell new business, using television and digital products.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments and within a sales team on station projects.
  • Must be able to close new business.
  • Ability to make face to face outside sales visits.
  • Ability to generate sales leads.
  • Identify business opportunities by identifying prospects, learn their business, and propose solutions.
  • Provide input on sales promotion ideas to sales management.
  • Retain current business and develop new business contacts.
  • Present marketing/advertising ideas to area businesses.
  • Sell commercial advertising time and other station products to local advertisers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A 4-year college degree or equivalent professional experience is preferred.
  • Customer-service oriented, self-motivated, and possess strong local contact.
  • Excellent computer knowledge (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Proficient with mobile digital technology.
  • Outstanding written and verbal presentation skills and Organizational skills.
  • An intense desire to succeed in a commission-based sales environment.

JOB SUMMARY:
We’re looking for a smart, innovative digital producer that is ready to challenge the norm and create unique digital content as well as engage our social media platforms to take us to the next level. And we’re also looking for someone who is a team-player, willing and ready to help others and inspire as well.
The Digital Producer is responsible for writing copy and managing the WJRT digital media platforms. Duties include, but are not limited to, writing news stories under tight deadlines, sending breaking news push alerts, gathering, and creating content for all digital platforms, engaging social media users and working with the news staff to coordinate the station's digital presence. The right candidate is a strong writer with excellent editorial judgment, time management and multi-tasking skills. Knowledge of video and photo editing a plus.

The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

  • Working quickly to send out breaking news, weather and traffic alerts, including push notifications, social media updates and web stories that are updated as news develops.
  • Collaborating with members of the digital team and the newsroom to produce and distribute news content that meets our high standards.
  • Posting to our online and social media platforms using digital publishing tools, video editing software and other resources.
  • Creating innovative and user-friendly elements for consumption across our platforms, including photo galleries, interactive charts, and other embedded content.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to learn new are imperative.
  • Additional duties as assigned, including conducting interviews for stories to appear in a digital format or on air.
  • Content creation for WJRT’s Digital platforms (Web, OTT, APP, Social Media).
  • Manning the digital "hot seat" during assigned hours.
  • Ability to field viewer calls, and cold call sources to confirm tips and scanner traffic.
  • Writing engaging digital headlines and compelling posts on social media.
  • Assisting the news team on implementing digital initiatives.
  • Special Projects as assigned.
  • Clipping video for website/OTT.

Qualifications and Skill set should include (but not limit to) the following:

  • 2-4 years of experience producing digital news and social media content.
  • An ability to effectively multitask & prioritize tasks to meet several deadlines in the day.
  • BA or BS in Journalism/Communications/English or equivalent background.
  • A strong passion for innovative storytelling, newsgathering, and lifelong learning.
  • Flexibility with respect to scheduling and/or assigned work shifts.
  • Preferred knowledge of ENPS.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Develop story ideas, write, shoot, and edit news stories for on-air broadcasting.
  • Write in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner.
  • Operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations.
  • Flexibility to work any shift including nights/weekends.
  • Ability to work under extreme deadline pressure and respond to late changes (be fluid).
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere and behaving in a manner that will work well with co-workers, supervisors, and viewers.
