Digital Content Manager

Island News has an opening for Digital Content Manager. The Digital Content Manager is primarily responsible for developing and executing new media strategies for KITV4 Island News and all its digital platforms, including web, mobile, and other content

The position is responsible for improving functionality of the digital platforms on a day-to-day basis including improving navigation and usability. This includes daily content, editing content, upkeep of site sections, video editing/producing, social media management, HTML coding, and web-exclusive content.

The DCM will work closely with digital producers to plan and execute daily digital content coverage, as well as set long-term digital content goals.

The DCM will also be involved in teaching and coaching the news team on how to best post and promote stories on all digital platforms that is consistent with the goals/objectives and strategy of the newsroom.

Responsibilities:

Manage the digital content team in both news and programming and lead digital strategy to grow multi-platform content, audience and engagement
Work with News Director, Managing Editor and Executive Producers to ensure a multi-platform content approach in every stage of the news-gathering process
Analyze and actively use data and metrics to inform editorial and strategic decisions and to create accountability for results
Oversee all station efforts on social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and other emerging platforms.
Lead the content team in identifying new content types and innovative technologies that help us reach and serve new audiences
Create unique, engaging, and shareable content
Skillfully use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content

Requirements:

Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Digital Media or other related field
At least 3 years of leading other digital journalists and developing digital strategies or relevant other newsroom experience
Solid journalistic judgment and a news philosophy that emphasizes accurate, fair, and unique local content, along with community engagement
A deep understanding of SEO best practices for articles, images, and video
Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and the ability to deal with the rapid pace of news
Knowledge of Content Management Systems and news production systems along with social newsgathering tools
Must be knowledgeable with AP writing style and operate with the highest journalistic standards

Experience analyzing audience data and identifying behavioral trends. Google Analytics experience a major bonus
Passion and vision for emerging media
Must have outstanding organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills; a team player.
Ability to organize and prioritize work activities and tasks handling multiple assignments, while meeting “tight” deadlines in an environment subject to constant change and interruptions.
