Meteorologist

This position is primarily responsible for preparing and presenting weather forecasts for multiple distribution platforms, including television, radio, print, online, and social media.


SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:

§  Anchoring weathercasts

§  Preparing own forecasts and computerized graphics for weathercasts

§  Building and using Max Reality: Augmented Reality Weather graphics

§  Maintaining day-to-day operation of weather center

§  Maintaining close liaison with NWS representatives

§  Working closely with other members of the station’s weather team

§  Field anchoring weathercasts live on location as assigned

§  Working with newscast producers to achieve highest production and content standards for weathercasts

§  Producing content for KEZI, MeTV, KEZI.com, radio partners, print partners, and for other television stations in the broadcast group

§  Must be available on short notice in the event of severe weather or other breaking weather news

§  Driving company vehicles to assignments

§  Serving as a public representative of KEZI 9 News at various community functions

§  Other duties as assigned by the News Director or the station Vice President & General Manager

 SKILLS REQUIRED/QUALIFICATIONS:

§  Baccalaureate degree in meteorology or atmospheric sciences

§  Experience with computer graphics and radar

§  American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval and/or National Weather Association Seal

§  Minimum of 1 year of experience preparing and anchoring weathercasts

§  Ability to perform effectively under extreme deadline pressure

§  Excellent interpersonal skills; a “team player”

§  Ability to work shifts as assigned including weekends, weeknights, overnights and holidays as needed

 OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

§  Dexterity to operate equipment

§  Seeing and hearing necessary to handle all job functions

§  May be required to deliver reports from various places, which may require walking, climbing or other means of getting to the location with camera equipment without a grip

§  Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Oregon driver’s license
