Located in Carterville, Illinois, WSIL serves portions of four states – Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee. WSIL is 2 hours from St. Louis, 3 hours from Nashville, Tennessee, and approximately 5 hours from Chicago.

The WSIL viewing area boasts several great parks and lakes. For the sportsman, the area offers opportunities for turkey, deer, and waterfowl hunting. Southern Illinois is home to the Thrillville Thrillbillies, a Prospect League baseball team, as well as four universities, Southern Illinois Univ. Carbondale, Southeast Missouri State Univ., Murray State Univ., and UT Martin. WSIL is also within easy driving distance to Busch Stadium to watch the St. Louis Cardinals or Nissan Stadium to see the Tennessee Titans.

The WSIL area is also home to many festivals and special events each year, including the Murphysboro Apple Festival, Du Quoin State Fair, SEMO District Fair, Herrin Festa Italiana, BBQ on the River and the Cobden Peach Festival

If you are a wine or beer enthusiast, you can explore and taste dozens of locally made beer and wine in southern Illinois. The Shawnee Hills Wine Trail showcases more than a dozen local wineries and there are several opportunities to have a locally brewed cold one.

Work as a journalist in a wonderful Midwest community that's part of a particularly large (geographically) DMA.  WSIL covers an area over 19,000 square miles, with no big cities, but a whole lot of local news.  You'll be responsible for daily video content -- and become the editor-in-chief of your region's digital news source.  You absolutely need to be a self-starter who is able to work remotely to report the news from the community/region you live and/or work in.  You must be able to shoot, edit, write and present your own stories, including live shots, while providing on-air and online content.

Candidates must be willing to live and work in these communities while covering news over a multi-county area.

WSIL is located in southern Illinois (Marion – Carbondale). Our coverage area also includes southeast Missouri, western Kentucky, and northwest Tennessee.

A degree in Journalism or Mass Communications is highly desired. Experience shooting and editing video for television and social media platforms is also desired, but not required.
