WSIL-TV has an immediate opening for a web and social network-savvy manager to lead its digital content initiatives. We are looking for a champion content creator to help shape and execute strategies for our newsroom and all its digital media efforts, including web, mobile, and social.

JOB SUMMARY

  • Write, edit and publish breaking news, daily news, sports, weather and feature stories for the station’s website, mobile and social media pages.
  • Identify and gather information on potential news stories seen on social media and other news websites.
  • Maintain a digital-centric culture where all departments in the station are focused on improving our position across all digital platforms.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on selecting, preparing and publishing content to our digital platforms
  • Work closely with other news managers to create and administer daily content workflow between on-air and on-line news, sports and weather.
  • Monitor interactive products such as polls and message boards.
  • Other duties as assigned by Newsroom or Station Management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus on journalism, communications or related fields of study.
  • At least one year of experience working for a television news station, daily newspaper, or in an on-line news environment is preferred.
  • Great interpersonal skills with ability to motivate and teach members of the news team to produce and execute accurate, informative and creative content.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment under deadline pressure.
  • Excellent computer and internet skills.
  • Strong verbal, writing and editing skills.

TECHNICAL MEDIA PRODUCER (TMP)

DESCRIPTION:     A Technical Media Producer (TMP) is a hybrid position which includes the responsibilities of a Master Control Operator and a Technical Director. The TMP is responsible for directing live or pre-recorded productions as assigned, monitoring on-air streams, FCC logs, and ingesting daily programming/commercials.  Daily assignments will include directing at least one newscast, ingesting/segmenting various long-form programs, ingesting commercial spots, loading programming playlists for the following day, and performing various tasks as needed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:    Operation of Ross Overdrive automation (including robotic cameras, audio console, graphics, and production video switcher), and all supporting equipment in Production/Master Control; including the ability to effectively perform at the following:  commercial/promo ingesting, satellite operation, program ingesting/segmenting, & a working knowledge of web production.  Operation of Edius editing software, and studio teleprompter. Daily care & maintenance of equipment & studio.  Work closely with all departments to meet daily demands.  Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:   Master Control and Live Production experience.  Experience with production automation system like Ross Overdrive, ability to work under pressure, great communication/people skills, ability to multitask under time sensitive deadlines, strong technical & computer skills, flexibility with scheduling & job assignments, understanding of FCC program logs & all FCC broadcast regulations.  Willingness to learn new hardware and software.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Full-time and part-time positions available; rate of pay is hourly.

The IT/Engineering Technician works to maintain the station’s technical infrastructure in support of the company’s goal of providing a quality product to our viewers and clients. He/she works in support of the technical needs of each department within the television station. The IT/Engineering Technician also helps maintains the physical infrastructure of the station. This includes, but is not limited to, buildings, grounds and equipment. WSIL-TV is a 24/7 operation and the Engineering Technician is required to be on-call as needed.

Work as a journalist in a wonderful Midwest community that's part of a particularly large (geographically) DMA.  WSIL covers an area over 20,000 square miles, with no big cities, but a whole lot of local news.  You'll be responsible for daily video content -- and become the editor-in-chief of your region's digital news source.  You absolutely need to be a self-starter who is able to work remotely to report the news from the community/region you live and/or work in.  You must be able to shoot, edit, write and present your own stories, including live shots, while providing on-air and online content.
