KWWL Television is seeking a motivated multimedia journalist who is passionate about shooting, writing and editing compelling material for multiple platforms. You will be joining a team of storytellers in our Rochester, Minnesota newsroom creating both on-air and online content. Candidates should be self-starters who can multitask well under pressure while meeting tight daily deadlines.

A college degree is required. Previous experience in a television newsroom environment is preferred. Candidates must be able to shoot video and edit in a non-linear format. Live reporting from news scenes is also a big part of this job. Fill in anchoring is also a possibility.

JOB SUMMARY:  Deliver newscasts and/or report news and feature stories, blogs and other material originated by the reporter, or assigned by the editor, and read them accurately, clearly and concisely and in an engaging manner.   

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Build network of informational sources that will enable the Company to stay ahead of its competitors. 

  • Develop ideas for news, feature and enterprise pieces, as well as investigative stories. 

  • Collect and analyze facts about newsworthy events by interview, investigation, or observation. 

  • Gather accurate and interesting information for newscast presentations.

  • Organize material and write articles based on the details and information obtained.

  • Present clear, creative and accurate live shots. 

  • Produce accurate, complete and compelling news copy on deadline.

  • Use various social platforms to give updates as well as news stories to the public. 

Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational skills. 

  • Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all station personnel. 

  • Adept at ad-lib presentations, without aid of scripts and/or teleprompters.

  • Possess exceptional research skills.

  • Solid delivery, camera presence and clear enunciation.

Education/Experience: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field preferred, with minimum of (2) two years’ experience as news reporter. 

Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements: 

High stress environment with deadline pressures. Travel will be required on a regular basis. Position requires the transport of equipment weighing up to 60 lbs.  Position often requires work in extreme outdoor temperatures.

Allen Media Broadcasting is looking for a talented and experienced Regional Chief Engineer to lead engineering operations at KWWL Television, KIMT Television and WREX Television. This qualified candidate will ensure that all projects are executed with the highest degree of technical excellence and efficiency.

As the Regional Chief Engineer, you will oversee the engineering functions for multiple locations and be based out of the KWWL building in Waterloo, Iowa.  You will manage engineering teams, provide technical leadership, and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations and company objectives. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and problem solver with strong technical expertise and excellent leadership skills.

This position also requires knowledge and experience with IT and RF technologies and equipment. Cellular ENG, remote equipment and production experience is preferred. Upon application, please highlight any experience with regional engineering and leadership.

Accountabilities:

●        Supervise day-to-day operation of all master control operators and maintenance engineers at all three stations.

●        Coordinate and staff all technical aspects of remote broadcasts and productions.

●        Oversee all maintenance and repairs on all technical, broadcast, and computer gear.

●        Develop recommendations and proposals for the implementation of new equipment and/or changes in procedure or applications of existing equipment.

●        Purchase all technical equipment and parts.

●        Oversee maintenance and operations of the physical plant including, but not limited to, heating, air conditioning, water, sewer, grounds, parking, roofing, and janitorial.

●        Ensure broadcast operations meet all FCC/FAA requirements.

●        Maintain logs; keep up-to-date maintenance records, reports, observations, and inspections.

●        Maintain and create documentation for station equipment and infrastructure.

●        Ensure the station and grounds are maintained, modified, and used in accordance with local fire, building, OSHA, City of Waterloo, State of Iowa, and federal regulations.

●        Schedule shifts for all technical maintenance, IT, and building/grounds maintenance personnel.

●        Act as consultant to the General Manager on technical budget and monitor expenses accordingly.

●        Represent the station at seminars and other events involving broadcast engineering, television, or other forms of data/information technology.

Qualifications:

●        Electrical engineering degree or equivalent experience preferred.

●        Minimum three years relevant experience in a broadcast facility.

●        Management training or experience is desirable.

●        Must possess physical ability to lift more than 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in cramped quarters.    

●        Must be capable of traversing rugged terrain at dish site and transmitter site for required maintenance work.

●        Physical ability to personally inspect tower sites from the ground.

●        General Class FCC license, SBE, CET, and other broadcast/facility maintenance certifications are desirable.

●        Thorough knowledge of a typical broadcast television signal path, from studio cameras to transmission antenna.

●        Capable of analyzing and correcting technical problems.

●        Ability to communicate with department heads while supervising technical problems.

●        Speech and hearing abilities that allow for clear communication with department heads and technical personnel (verbally and in writing).

●        Must be able to read/respond to written safety messages, warning signs, and instructional manuals and ability to distinguish/maintain color constancy.

●        Must be able to communicate effectively with vendors and manufacturers and service provider’s technical support.

●        Must be able to operate essential office equipment, including copiers/scanners, personal communications devices, image display devices, etc.

●        Must maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

●        Must maintain a cellular phone to be used for business communications.
