KWWL, the NBC affiliate serving Eastern Iowa, is looking for a photojournalist with a creative eye, technical expertise, and can-do attitude. You’ll also need to understand the importance of visual composition, natural sound, and quality lighting. The successful candidate must be able to deliver great video on a daily basis in our very competitive 21-county market. 

Have a license to operate a drone or want to get yours? We can help! Live drone shots included.

You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to cover big time college sports including the University of Iowa, University of Northern Iowa, and Iowa State athletics.  Our photojournalists are just that - journalists, so if you want to write as well as shoot and edit, or simply get more hands-on training in the industry, we’re the place.  You must love working very early hours and/or very late hours (the hours vary) under deadline pressure. KWWL has Sony HD cameras, drones, satellite, and storm chaser vehicles and LiveU.

As our Business Administrator and Human Resources Manager, you will:

  • Ensure timely completion of business office tasks, including report generation and accounts payable.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for local employees regarding benefits, policies, and payroll, liaising with corporate HR and Shared Services.

  • Manage employee files and health & welfare data with confidentiality and accuracy.

  • Administer key employment processes such as onboarding, benefits enrollment, leave of absence tracking, and payroll documentation.

We are looking for candidates who possess:

  • 3-5 years of experience in an executive administrator or office manager capacity.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a high-demand, fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.

  • Experience with detailed data entry and maintenance in databases.

  • Strong detail orientation and exceptional organizational skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities at all organizational levels.

  • A proactive, energetic, and positive demeanor.

  • Confidence and assertiveness in providing guidance and directives.

  • A strong sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Excellent judgment and independent decision-making skills.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and sensitivity.

  • Prior experience supporting a human resources team with exposure to benefits and leave administration.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the Human Resources field.

KWWL Television, Inc. has an immediate opening for an experienced Sales Account Executive to work in the Cedar Rapids market.  This is a hybrid position with the candidate working primarily from home.  

The successful candidate will be an aggressive self-starter with excellent communication skills and a winning attitude.  While prior television experience is preferred, sales experience in cable or radio will be considered.  You will have the opportunity to manage an account list. You must have the ability to develop creative marketing strategies and custom advertising solutions for new direct account development. 

Duties will require a strong focus on new business and non-traditional revenues with both television and digital platforms. The candidate must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. One must also be accomplished with the use of Google platforms as well as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Must also be willing to learn and master industry-dedicated computer software applications.

Regional Chief Engineer

Allen Media Broadcasting is looking for a talented and experienced Regional Chief Engineer to lead engineering operations at KWWL Television, KIMT Television and WREX Television. This qualified candidate will ensure that all projects are executed with the highest degree of technical excellence and efficiency.

As the Regional Chief Engineer, you will oversee the engineering functions for multiple locations and be based out of the KWWL building in Waterloo, Iowa.  You will manage engineering teams, provide technical leadership, and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations and company objectives. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and problem solver with strong technical expertise and excellent leadership skills.

This position also requires knowledge and experience with IT and RF technologies and equipment. Cellular ENG, remote equipment and production experience is preferred. Upon application, please highlight any experience with regional engineering and leadership.

Accountabilities:

●        Supervise day-to-day operation of all master control operators and maintenance engineers at all three stations.

●        Coordinate and staff all technical aspects of remote broadcasts and productions.

●        Oversee all maintenance and repairs on all technical, broadcast, and computer gear.

●        Develop recommendations and proposals for the implementation of new equipment and/or changes in procedure or applications of existing equipment.

●        Purchase all technical equipment and parts.

●        Oversee maintenance and operations of the physical plant including, but not limited to, heating, air conditioning, water, sewer, grounds, parking, roofing, and janitorial.

●        Ensure broadcast operations meet all FCC/FAA requirements.

●        Maintain logs; keep up-to-date maintenance records, reports, observations, and inspections.

●        Maintain and create documentation for station equipment and infrastructure.

●        Ensure the station and grounds are maintained, modified, and used in accordance with local fire, building, OSHA, City of Waterloo, State of Iowa, and federal regulations.

●        Schedule shifts for all technical maintenance, IT, and building/grounds maintenance personnel.

●        Act as consultant to the General Manager on technical budget and monitor expenses accordingly.

●        Represent the station at seminars and other events involving broadcast engineering, television, or other forms of data/information technology.

Qualifications:

●        Electrical engineering degree or equivalent experience preferred.

●        Minimum three years relevant experience in a broadcast facility.

●        Management training or experience is desirable.

●        Must possess physical ability to lift more than 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in cramped quarters.    

●        Must be capable of traversing rugged terrain at dish site and transmitter site for required maintenance work.

●        Physical ability to personally inspect tower sites from the ground.

●        General Class FCC license, SBE, CET, and other broadcast/facility maintenance certifications are desirable.

●        Thorough knowledge of a typical broadcast television signal path, from studio cameras to transmission antenna.

●        Capable of analyzing and correcting technical problems.

●        Ability to communicate with department heads while supervising technical problems.

●        Speech and hearing abilities that allow for clear communication with department heads and technical personnel (verbally and in writing).

●        Must be able to read/respond to written safety messages, warning signs, and instructional manuals and ability to distinguish/maintain color constancy.

●        Must be able to communicate effectively with vendors and manufacturers and service provider’s technical support.

●        Must be able to operate essential office equipment, including copiers/scanners, personal communications devices, image display devices, etc.

●        Must maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

●        Must maintain a cellular phone to be used for business communications.
