Overview
The Senior News Producer is an essential part of KWWL’s newsroom
team—responsible for crafting daily newscasts across broadcast and digital platforms.
This role supports our goal of delivering compelling, welltimed, and locally relevant
news with strong editorial judgment in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
Newscast Production
o Research, write, assemble, and reorder stories to create cohesive,
engaging broadcast newscasts.
o Time newscasts precisely to manage segments and commercial breaks.
o Write teases, intros, and segment transitions.
o Coordinate live shots and monitor breaking news updates.
Collaboration & and; Communication
o Work closely with reporters, anchors, meteorologists, editors, assignment
desk staff, graphics and control room teams to execute the show.
o Maintain constant communication to manage last-minute changes
effectively.
Digital Integration
o Repurpose newscast content—scripts, video, and graphics—for KWWL's
website and social media channels.

Editorial Judgment & and Workflow
o Select and prioritize stories based on news value and audience impact.
o Lead coverage of breaking news with agility and solid decision-making.

Other Duties

o Participate in newsroom meetings, support other assignments as needed,
and assist when staffing shifts or breaking events arise.

Qualifications
Education & amd Experience
o Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field—or
equivalent experience.
o 2–5 years of producing experience in a television newsroom preferred.
Skills & amd Abilities
o Exceptional news judgment and editorial integrity.
o Strong writing, grammar, and storytelling ability.
o Expertise managing deadlines in a high-pressure broadcast environment.
o Proficient with newsroom systems (e.g., ENPS, iNews), video editing, and
digital publishing.
o Ability to multitask effectively and adapt quickly to changing news
situations.
Work Conditions
o Flexible with schedule: This is a dayside Monday-Friday position right
now. Must be able to work evenings, nights, weekends if needed to fill-in,
and be available for breaking news coverage.

Overview:
KWWL, the NBC affiliate serving Eastern Iowa, is looking for a talented and creative
Promotions Writer/Producer to join our award-winning creative services team. This full-
time position is perfect for a motivated individual with a passion for storytelling, a sharp
eye for visuals, and the ability to thrive under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:
- Write, shoot, and edit compelling promotional spots for KWWL’s daily newscasts and
station branding.
- Collaborate with the News and Sales departments to develop high-quality, on-brand
content that resonates with our audience.
- Manage multiple projects at once while meeting fast-turnaround deadlines.
- Operate professional video and audio equipment, including DSLR cameras, for both video
and still photography.
- Work independently and take ownership of assigned projects from concept to completion.
- Assist in shooting still and video elements for station events, image campaigns, and
commercial clients as needed.
- Coordinate with the traffic department to ensure correct scheduling of promotional spots,
including use of tools like WideOrbit (training provided, but basic system fluency is
expected).

Requirements:
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and After Effects.
- Strong copywriting skills tailored to news promotion and brand messaging.

- Proven experience producing fast-paced, high-quality video content.
- Solid knowledge of DSLR video production and photography.
- Familiarity with field production gear including lighting and audio setups.
- Ability to manage time effectively, take direction, and work independently.
- College degree in Communications, Media, Journalism, or a related field.
- A reel or portfolio demonstrating relevant experience is required.
- Comfort working with scheduling or content management systems; experience with
WideOrbit is a plus, but not required.

Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in a newsroom or broadcast environment.
- Knowledge of social media video trends and digital content creation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Produce original digital content for all of KWWL-TV digital platforms, including but not limited to websites, apps and social media
  • Excel in breaking news situations, accurately reporting and updating information as it happens online
  • Work closely with assignment editors, broadcast producers and newsroom managers to coordinate three-screen synergy (TV, digital, mobile) around news coverage
  • Use various metrics to identify digital content priority and placement decisions to grow digital audiences
  • Copy edit content written by others and correct errors, grammar and punctuation following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines.
  • Ensure all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.

 

Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge and experience with an online CMS (Knowledge of BLOX is a plus)
  • Strong grasp of posting to various social media channels, including Facebook and Instagram
  • Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational skills
  • Write in a smart, conversational and shareable manner with a creative format and style
  • Strong understanding of AP style, SEO best practices, Google Analytics a plus
  • Basic Photoshop and video editing skills
  • Basic HTML knowledge

Education/Experience:

JOB SUMMARY:  Deliver newscasts and/or report news and feature stories, blogs and other material originated by the reporter, or assigned by the editor, and read them accurately, clearly and concisely and in an engaging manner.   

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Build network of informational sources that will enable the Company to stay ahead of its competitors. 

  • Develop ideas for news, feature and enterprise pieces, as well as investigative stories. 

  • Collect and analyze facts about newsworthy events by interview, investigation, or observation. 

  • Gather accurate and interesting information for newscast presentations.

  • Organize material and write articles based on the details and information obtained.

  • Present clear, creative and accurate live shots. 

  • Produce accurate, complete and compelling news copy on deadline.

  • Use various social platforms to give updates as well as news stories to the public. 

Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational skills. 

  • Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all station personnel. 

  • Adept at ad-lib presentations, without aid of scripts and/or teleprompters.

  • Possess exceptional research skills.

  • Solid delivery, camera presence and clear enunciation.

Education/Experience: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or related field preferred, with minimum of (2) two years’ experience as news reporter. 

Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements: 

High stress environment with deadline pressures. Travel will be required on a regular basis. Position requires the transport of equipment weighing up to 60 lbs.  Position often requires work in extreme outdoor temperatures.
