In 2014, we formed a partnership with the Bounce TV Network, which targets African-American viewers, to televise their programming on our digital sub-channel. In 2018 we added Antenna TV to another digital sub-channel, which includes the greatest hits of all time.

Position: Weekend Technical Director / Photojournalist (Entry-Level)

WFFT-TV FOX 55 is seeking a technically savvy, creative Weekend Technical Director/Photojournalist to direct weekend newscasts and produce high-impact visual journalism. This is an entry-level role—we will train a qualified candidate. The individual hired will learn all aspects of television newscast production (control room operations, switching, audio, graphics, studio) as well as professional news video shooting and editing for broadcast and digital. This is a behind-the-scenes role and is not intended as an on-air position.
Important: This is not a job for shy people—you’ll often work alone in the field and introduce yourself to strangers to secure interviews, information, and access.
Role Structure (Full-Time):

2 days per week: Technical Director on weekends
-
3 days per week: Photojournalist (shoot/edit/produce for broadcast & digital)
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
-
Direct/technical direct locally produced weekend news programs.
-
Serve as occasional backup for weekday directors during vacation/PTO.
-
Shoot, edit, and produce VOs, VOSOTs, and full packages for TV and digital with accuracy, clarity, and journalistic integrity.
-
Work independently in the field; proactively approach and interview new people daily; build rapport with sources and the community.
-
Collaborate with reporters, producers, and content producers to plan shoots, conceptualize stories, and execute creative vision using both video and natural sound.
-
Oversee the video library on weekends; assist with digitization and archiving to ensure accessibility and compliance with station standards.

Safely operate production and field equipment and follow established control-room workflows.

Other job-related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
-
Entry-level; we will train a qualified candidate.

Must know how to edit video (non-linear editing); foundational skills acceptable with willingness to learn.

Not a job for shy people: comfortable approaching strangers, conducting on-the-spot interviews, and working solo in the field on a daily basis.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under strict deadlines; remain calm under pressure.

Strong visual storytelling skills; ability to produce high-impact content using sound, video, voice-over, and clear package structure.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to operate news vehicles/units. Background check required.

Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds of equipment when necessary.

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); strong organization and attention to detail.

Flexibility to work non-standard hours (nights, weekends, holidays, overnights) in response to news events; must be available on holidays and for breaking news.

Demonstrate solid news judgment.

Background and/or interest in core broadcasting workflows (control room, field production/ENG, master control) with the ability to operate essential production equipment and learn new systems quickly.

Must be willing to reside in the Fort Wayne DMA.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcasting, communications, production or related field preferred, not required.
Preferred Skills:

Experience with non-linear editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Edius).

Familiarity with ENPS newsroom systems.
-
Electronic field production (EFP) capability and strong creative visuals in live and recorded environments.

You’ll anchor our weekend newscasts and, during the week, enterprise, shoot, write, edit, and present original reporting across TV, web, and social. WFFT is Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio’s FOX affiliate, serving the Headwaters region for 45+ years with award-winning local news and the market’s only 10 p.m. newscast.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Anchor weekend newscasts with confident delivery, clear enunciation, and strong on-camera presence.

Report as an MMJ: pitch, research, interview, write, shoot, and edit daily stories (news, feature, enterprise, investigative).

Produce accurate, complete, and compelling copy on deadline; execute clear, creative, accurate live shots.
-
Build and maintain a reliable network of sources to keep the newsroom ahead of the competition.

Write and publish complementary web and social content; provide timely digital updates.
-
Collaborate with producers, anchors, photojournalists, and directors to ensure clean, energetic, informative broadcasts.

Uphold newsroom standards for fairness, accuracy, attribution, and ethics.
Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in journalism, broadcasting, or related field (preferred).

Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a news reporter (preferred).

Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar, organization, and research skills.

Proven ad-lib ability—with or without scripts/teleprompter.
-
Strong editorial judgment; ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Comfortable with newsroom technology and non-linear editing systems.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Background check required.

Must be willing to reside in the Fort Wayne DMA.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with breaking news.

Regular local travel; ability to lift/transport up to 60 lbs.
