The Role: What You'll Do
As News Director, you will be an enthusiastic, skilled communicator responsible for the overall success and execution of our news coverage. You will lead our team daily in providing market-leading breaking news, severe weather coverage, and essential community service on all broadcast and digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Content Direction: Direct the gathering and production of compelling news content, leveraging advanced digital tools and platforms to enhance dissemination and engagement.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and motivate news personnel. This includes effective work allocation, training, performance evaluation, problem resolution, and making recommendations for personnel actions to ensure peak productivity.
- Strategic Vision: Collaborate with other department heads on station-wide initiatives and lead the strategic planning for the news department's growth and competitive edge.
- Financial Oversight: Manage and administer the departmental budget effectively.

Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Proven record of leadership and success in a local broadcast television news operation.
- Significant experience in a broadcast television newsroom environment.
- A strong, demonstrable ability to mentor, coach, and develop a news staff.
- The capability to articulate and demonstrate how your efforts have previously improved a news product at another broadcast television station.
- Excellent communication and management skills necessary to successfully lead a small-market staff and oversee multiple hours of daily newscasts.
Education:
- A Bachelor’s Degree is strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate for this full-time, entry-level digital news position has strong online news writing skills and knows how to use social media to grow our audience. You’ll be creating content for WLFI.com and all our associated social media channels. You will also be asked to use one of our news cameras to shoot, write and edit stories for digital and on-air purposes. You may also be needed to fill in as a news producer.

WLFI’s newsroom is a team atmosphere and we’re looking for someone with an understanding of local news, to come in and play a pivotal role in our successful newsroom. The primary purpose is to create, lead and organize content for multiple platforms using strong editorial, journalistic, organizational and communication skills.
Key activities:
Developing newscasts and local programs; responsible for writing, and showcasing
Working closely with News managers and Producers to determine content
Executing time-sensitive decisions
Responsible for oversight of live broadcast

Requirements:
Knowledge of ENPS, Edius preferred
Excellent conversational and creative writing skills
Must have strong communication and organization skills
Adaptable, self-motivated and able to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field
Experience as a producer preferred

Account Executives at WLFI are responsible for selling television and all digital platforms (WLFI desk top, app, tablet and mobile). As a WLFI Account Executive, basic computer capabilities in Microsoft Office are a must. A background in digital sales and marketing is a plus, sales experience is preferred.

The ability to run Master control, ingest media into servers, and monitor on air signal output are the main responsibilities. This position will also direct live newscasts, and may perform various other tasks during live news broadcasts including audio operation. The candidate will prepare playlist and programs for next day air, and purge content from the previous day’s logs. He / She must have good communication skills and the ability to react quickly to changes.
Ideal Candidates must be extremely detail-oriented, have a strong desire to learn, be able to work under pressure as part of a team, and be able to work flexible hours. If you are an experienced Director and or Production assistant looking to become a Director, this job is for you.
Experience in Television Directing, is preferred. Candidates must have knowledge of computers and production equipment. The use of Adobe Photoshop, other editing software, as well as control room experience preferred. Experience with non-linear editing systems as well as a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is encouraged. Automation knowledge is a plus.
