SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:

  • Operation of Ross Overdrive Automation (including robotic cameras, audio console, graphics generator, and production switcher)
  • Managing on air playlist using automation system and responsible for all broadcast content
  • Daily tasks include commercial/promo ingesting, satellite operation, program ingesting and segmenting, and directing newscast
  • Responsible for EAS operations, maintaining transmitter logs, daily care & maintenance of studio equipment and news set
  • Work closely with all departments to meet daily demans and other duties as assigned

 

SKILLS REQUIRED/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master Control and production assistant experience preferred
  • Must have great communication & people skills
  • Strong problem solving & troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to multitask under time sensitive deadlines 
  • Strong technical & computer skills highly recommended
  • Flexibility with scheduling & job assignments 
  • Understanding off FCC program logs & all FCC broadcast regulations
  • Willingness to learn new hardware & software

Action News Now, the CBS/NBC duopoly covering the Chico/Redding, CA market has an opportunity for an energetic, highly skilled, relatable meteorologist to join our weather team.  Our next meteorologist knows the science behind forecasting and can tell an easy to understand weather story.  This person must be familiar with Augmented Reality and willing to innovate and create, not just “cut and paste” graphics.  They must be cool under pressure and ready to go at a moment’s notice when it comes to severe, breaking weather stories.

Chico/Redding is in Northern California. We see extreme heat and wind conditions that are prime drivers for wildfires, some snow and rain with the possibility for flash flooding during those times.

It’s a great area to live, especially if you love being outdoors, with an abundance of parks, trails, mountains and bike paths.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Give our viewers the weather information they need and want with accurate, compelling and understandable storytelling and graphics.

-Give urgent, immediate, and accurate weather in times of severe weather, making sure our viewers are prepared, not scared.

-Must be digital savvy, using multiple social media platforms to get important information out.

-Will use not just regular graphics but also Live Lineups and Augmented Reality.

-Ready to go when there is a severe weather event, whether it’s inside the studio or in the field.  

-Must have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of weather science and forecasting.

-Dynamic, authoritative presence on air that is relatable and easy to understand when giving out important, life-saving information.

-Some MMJing may be required. All reports will be weather or climate related.

 

EDUCATION:

-Minimum – Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology or related field experience.

-Some on air experience is required, either for your college station or professionally.

We have recently automated our Broadcast Operations and need an on site, in house, skilled Electronics Systems Engineer excited about adapting to changing technologies.

Working as the go to assistant to the Chief Broadcast Engineer, the Lead Broadcast Systems Engineer attends to the care and feeding of the critical television broadcast and IT systems found at our facilities.

They must be able to communicate highly technical details to non-technical employees. They must communicate effectively in English to resolve local end user issues and bring outside vendor support issues to resolution. Must be able to lift, move and rack 50 lbs. of server equipment and be dexterous enough to attach cabling in tight quarters. They must have a valid California driver's license or the ability to get one shortly after hire.

The KHSL Broadcast IT Manager will be customer service focused, with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, having demonstrated knowledge of Electronic Systems Maintenance. Knowledge of RF devices, electrical power supply systems, basic IT LAN/WAN/VPN network management, and knowledge in reading and interpreting test equipment readouts.

The candidate must be familiar with level one IT functions such as deploying desktops, updating software, repairing broken hardware, and end user assistance. 

A thorough knowledge, understanding, and familiarity of the essential job functions must be the primary goal within the first 90 – 180 days.   An ongoing effort to gain a holistic overview of the specific Broadcast IT and RF systems, their operations, and workflow is essential. Qualifications Requirements:                                                   

Good analytical & technical problem-solving skills

Must be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with constant deadlines

Good interpersonal and English communication skills, positive attitude, team player

Ability to maintain corporate standards, policies, and procedures

May be required to be “on-call” outside of normal working hours

 

Education:

BS or BA in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Information Science, Information Technology or an equivalent combination of training and real-world work experience including that of military experience. 

 

Additional Requirements:

Must have a valid California driver's license or the ability to get one shortly after hire
