Production Assistant

WAAY-TV in Huntsville is seeking applicants for a full time Production Assistant. The Production Assistant assists in the production of news and programming, both live and recorded, for on-air and online presentations. Production Assistant responsibilities include:

  • Preparing the studio for newscasts
  • Operating studio cameras as directed
  • Relaying information to news anchors
  • Adjusting studio lighting as directed
  • Operating teleprompter as needed

Other responsibilities may also include the following:

  • Video switcher
  • Audio board
  • Microphones
  • Character generator and related graphics software
  • Video editing systems
  • Digital Broadcast Operations

 

Experience preferred but not required.  Training is available. Must be available to work early mornings and weekends.

WAAY-TV is looking for an experienced Multi-Media Journalist to lead our Shoals Newsroom. Your responsibilities as an MMJ will include reporting, shooting and editing news stories, enterprising story ideas, developing contacts, as well as other responsibilities as assigned. You will be expected to produce daily content from Northwest Alabama on a variety of platforms including WAAYTV.com, social networking sites such as FaceBook, Instagram and Twitter in addition to television.

 

The successful candidate must be willing to go above and beyond to cover a key area in the nation's 78th largest TV market, ensuring we own coverage of the top stories in a three-county region.  This is a Monday-Friday position, with occasional on-call weekend duties. 

 

The Shoals is home to some historic recording studios, the University of North Alabama, as well as some of the most scenic locations along the Tennessee River.

 

Requirements, Responsibilities and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Journalism or a related field preferred
  • Experience with live shots preferred
  • The ability to work well independently
  • Must have and maintain a valid license and a good driving record
  • Develop and maintain a network of news sources to create exclusive local news content.
  • Stay current on both local and national news events
  • The ability to interact professionally and effectively with all WAAY TV employees and external organizations
  • Responsible for maintaining all station gear including but not limited to; cameras, cellphones, tablets, laptops and any other gear assigned
  • Responsible for maintaining station vehicle with regular auto detailing and maintenance checks
  • Able to work independently and use solid judgement on all stories, images and sound that is used within a news story
  • Ability to work under pressure in a rapidly changing news environment
  • Must be able to make decision quickly and accurately while coping with stress, resulting from a variety of circumstances under tight deadlines

WAAY-TV, the ABC affiliate in Huntsville, Alabama market, has an opportunity for a high-energy, highly skilled Meteorologist to join our accomplished weather team.

The North Alabama region is an incredibly active weather market. WAAY-TV continues to invest in our weather facility and is home to the country’s largest radar network, three radars strategically positioned to cover all of North Alabama, from the Shoals in the western section of the market to the Sand Mountain region to the east.  This position provides the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art weather tools. The ideal candidate must be able to produce and deliver a dynamic, compelling and understandable forecast during local newscasts and on various digital platforms. You will become part of a true weather team that covers severe weather with urgency while being reassuring.  The person we hire as part of this team must have a positive attitude and seek to be an ambassador for WAAY-TV by making personal appearances at community events.  This meteorologist will be assigned to weekend weather anchoring and fill-in during weekday newscasts, while working daily with weather staff.

Job Requirements:

  •   Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science required
  •   Minimum of two-years on-air experience as a Broadcast Meteorologist (Internships and college experience considered)
  •   Applicants should have, or be qualified to apply for, the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist or the AMS Seal
  •   Demonstrate ability to post forecasts, graphics, and related information to various digital media platforms
  •   Strong social media skills, including an active weather presence on Facebook and Instagram
  •   Ability to manage multiple priorities and calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
  •   Write, edit, and report on weather and/or news from the field or inside the newsroom
  •   Be available to work a flexible schedule and fill-in when necessary
