You’ll also need to understand the importance of visual composition, natural sound, and quality lighting. The successful candidate must be able to deliver great video on a daily basis in our very competitive 21-county market.

You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to cover big time college sports including the University of Iowa, University of Northern Iowa, and Iowa State athletics. Our photojournalists are just that - journalists, so if you want to write as well as shoot and edit, or simply get more hands-on training in the industry, we’re the place. You must love working very early hours and/or very late hours (the hours vary) under deadline pressure. KWWL has Sony HD cameras, drones, satellite, and storm chaser vehicles and LiveU.

Meteorologist

KWWL, the NBC affiliate serving Eastern Iowa, needs an experienced meteorologist who understands the importance of severe storm coverage. From spring and summer tornados to winter blizzards; we see it all. We are looking for someone who is a great forecaster, good communicator, and calm under pressure.

We have a five-person weather team, the next generation in weather graphics and storm tracking with the WSI Max system and live cameras throughout the DMA. Plus, we have all the other tools you need to successfully tell your weather story.

You’ll primarily forecast weather for our Saturday and Sunday newscasts and forecast for various other newscasts and platforms three days during the week. You’ll also do live shots from major breaking weather stories across the 21 counties we serve in eastern Iowa. This is a full-time weather position.

Newscast Director/Master Control Operator

KWWL, the NBC affiliate serving the 92nd largest market is seeking a highly motivated Newscast Director for its award-winning, state of the art fast paced production and master control facility. This position is accountable for coordination and production of newscasts and cut ins within station guidelines in a manner that will attract the largest possible viewership. The position is also accountable for master control operations, including ingesting/timing out local content and monitoring automated playlists for three stations. We are looking for a multi-tasking candidate that supports our commitment to serving the communities of eastern Iowa.

Qualifications include, but are not limited to:

  • High school and/or technical school graduate. College courses or equivalent experience desirable.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new programs quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capable of analyzing and correcting technical problems.
  • Experience with video production desirable.
  • Familiarity with Ross Switchers, Ross Overdrive Automation, Ross XPression graphics system, Yamaha audio consoles, Harris/Imagine Master Control Automation a plus.
  • Knowledge of FCC requirements for broadcast facilities, including transmission and tower light monitoring/logging and EAS notifications a plus.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, and Encore a plus.
  • Experience with lighting and set design a plus.

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb tall ladders, move studio cameras, and set pieces.
  • Must have valid state driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Vision, speech, and hearing abilities that facilitate a rapid response to changes during a newscast.
  • Possess manual dexterity to quickly move between various positions.
  • Must be capable of traversing snow-covered terrain to remove snow from satellite dishes.

Executive Producer

KWWL is seeking a take-charge leader to help guide our team and help manage our multi-platform news products. This manager will serve as an editorial decision maker. Excellent news judgement is needed for this fast-paced environment and multi-city market.

The successful candidate must be able to identify great stories, create urgency, and showcase stories in a memorable way. The Executive Producer will partner with the Assistant News Director and the News Director to execute a vision and strategic plan for success in daily weather, severe weather, breaking news, and the big story every day while assisting with the management of day-to-day operations.

You will work with producers and anchors to showcase and execute the presentation of newscasts, while also doing the same for web and social media. The Executive Producer will have a creative vision for the use of writing, video, graphics, and other production elements to tell great stories, employing all of our technology on all of our platforms including our Storm Chaser and our drone.

KWWL is a continuous news source with an immediate deadline culture. The Executive Producer will oversee and be in constant contact with those involved in our newsgathering and delivery process. You will be responsible for making immediate decisions on how stories and content will be presented.
