JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant News Director assists the News Director with all aspects of news, weather, and sports programming production, and serves as the News Director in his/her absence.  Assist in overseeing and leading all aspects of daily news operations including organization of targeted content; analyze audience research; work effectively with creative services, sales, production and other departments.  In conjunction with the News Director creates a productive and energetic work environment with clear communication, accountability, high journalistic standards and instill strong teamwork.   Ability to foster positive, innovative, hard charging newsroom.  Coordinate breaking news, weather, and large event coverage while effectively planning news strategies for continuous measurement.  Hands-on leader who can grow ratings and grow content on all platforms.  Excellent judgement skills, high ethical standards and practices, who has demonstrated success in helping mentor and grow emerging journalists.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in managing all aspects of News Department including recruit, coach, train, inspire, and mentor
  • Assist in planning, staffing, training, scheduling, performance evaluations for the News Department.
  • Consults on decisions regarding hiring, evaluations, promotion an termination of employees
  • Critiques newscasts daily to correct errors, improve coverage and provide mentoring feedback to news staff
  • Works with the News Director to cultivate a culture that owns enterprising reporting & breaking news across all content platform.

  • Assist in executing the brand and grow audience on all platforms.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 4-year degree in Broadcast Journalism, or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • 3+ years of news management experience.

JOB SUMMARY:

ABC12 WJRT-TV in Flint, Mich. is seeking a full-time meteorologist to join the best weather team in Mid-Michigan! This is a unique position – a Monday through Friday weather position.

Our meteorologists have the best technology, including WSI, TruVu Max and Max Storm. Candidates must have a minimum of three years of television forecasting experience, as well as forecasting on digital platforms and social media. A degree in meteorology and a passion for severe weather coverage is required.

Candidate must be able to tell a great weather story in a way that is easy for the viewer to understand – especially when it comes to dayparts and inconvenient weather. Must be able to produce content for all platforms and understand the importance of social media. You must also be community-oriented and be active in the station’s many public events throughout the year.

Must be able to work under extreme deadlines pressure and respond to late changes. Be available for unscheduled assignments on morning, nights, weekends and holidays as assigned by news management.

Accuracy is a must. You will cover severe weather with urgency, while also being reassuring. Our meteorologist must have the ability to work in a multi-platform environment and will contribute daily to our digital platforms, including social media and abc12.com.  Must be comfortable on air or live in the field.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working directly with the news team to build out our coverage and make it meaningful and relatable to our viewers. For big weather stories, our meteorologists also report in the field. Strong leadership and teamwork is a must. Our weather team is involved in the newsroom and the community. The person we hire must have a positive attitude and be an ambassador for the station by making personal appearances at community events.  Constructing a clear accurate forecast for newscasts  Update social media accounts.  Must be able to work under extreme deadlines pressure and respond to late changes.

JOB SUMMARY:

We’re looking for a smart, innovative digital producer that is ready to challenge the norm and create unique digital content as well as engage our social media platforms to take us to the next level. The Digital Producer is responsible for writing copy and managing the WJRT digital media platforms. Duties include, but are not limited to, writing news stories under tight deadlines, sending breaking news push alerts, gathering and creating content for all digital platforms, engaging social media users and working with the news staff to coordinate the station's digital presence. The right candidate is a strong writer with excellent editorial judgment, time management and multi-tasking skills. Knowledge of video and photo editing a plus. The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

• Working quickly to send out breaking news, weather and traffic alerts, including push notifications, social media updates and web stories that are updated as news develops Collaborating with members of the digital team and the newsroom to produce and distribute news content that meets our high standards

• Posting to our online and social media platforms using digital publishing tools, video editing software and other resources

• Creating innovative and user-friendly elements for consumption across our platforms, including photo galleries, interactive charts, and other embedded content

• Attention to detail and willingness to learn new are imperative

• Additional duties as assigned, including conducting interviews for stories to appear in a digital format or on air.

• Content creation for WJRT’s Digital platforms (Web, OTT, APP, Social Media)

• Manning the digital "hot seat" during assigned hours

• Ability to field viewer calls, and cold call sources to confirm tips & scanner traffic

Qualifications and Skill set should include (but not limit to) the following:

· 2-4 years of experience producing digital news and social media content

The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for newscasts or local programs, including oversight on story selection, content, and production, ensuring that the station is competitive within the market.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages newsroom content and showcasing across multiple platforms, to improve the quality of our product and the growth of our audience as measured by ratings and analytics.
  • Collaborates with producers, field crews, content coordinators, anchors, and other managers to select stories for coverage.
  • Oversees and edits writing for all platforms, including stories, newscast teases, web headlines and social posts.
  • On occasion, will produce newscasts.
  • Provides regular coaching and feedback to individuals and larger groups.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must also be strong at managing breaking news and severe weather coverage, and be able to make sound split-second decisions during live broadcasts.
  • Ability to shoot and edit video with knowledge of electronic news gathering & non-linear editing
  • Strong skills in posting to the web, working with social media, and gathering of user generated content are important.
  • Knowledge of ENPS preferred.
  • BS/BA in Journalism/Communications or equivalent background
  • Highly developed public speaking and interpersonal skills
  • Essential 3 years television experience in top 150 market
  • Extensive experience in broadcast TV news
  • Professional, consistent on-air appearance
  • Advanced ability in critical thinking
  • Understands social media and the importance of engaging viewers
  • Quick and effective decision-making skills

The Technical Media Producer has the general responsibility for directing live or pre-recorded productions as assigned, monitoring station's on-air signals, transmitter, and FCC logs, and ingesting daily programming and commercials. Regular assignments will involve directing specific newscasts, operate equipment in master control automation, various productions, and various elements for the web channel. Candidate must have suitable transportation to work, including during inclement weather conditions. The successful candidate will possess strong communication and people skills and an operating knowledge of computers.   

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operating automation system Video switcher
  • MCR operation and automation
  • VizRT graphics and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Operate equipment supporting production/master control
  • Effectively perform operations with robotic camera, prompter, audio, and working knowledge of in-house web production.

  • Familiar with Adobe Premiere Pro and newsroom computer systems.
