News Producer

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create newscasts, select, research, write content for live newscasts

QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years prior news producing experience and strong editorial skills

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Broadcasting, or a related field

  • Must possess exceptional organizational and writing skills

The ideal candidate must be able to produce and deliver a dynamic, compelling and understandable forecast for our newscasts and digital platforms. Accuracy is a must. You will cover severe weather with urgency, while also being reassuring. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working directly with the news team to build out our coverage and make it meaningful and relatable to our viewers. Our meteorologists also report in the field. Strong leadership and teamwork is a must. Our weather team is involved in the newsroom and the community. The person we hire must have a positive attitude and be an ambassador for the station by making personal appearances at community events.  This position will include weekends.

Constructing a clear accurate forecast for weekend newscasts.  Writing compelling stories.  Shooting and editing video.  Live reporting in studio or in the field.  Update social media accounts.  Must be able to work under extreme deadlines pressure and respond to late changes.    Be available for unscheduled assignments on morning, nights, weekends and holidays as assigned by News Management.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree in meteorology or similar degree.

Previous experience and working knowledge of weather systems.

TMP:

WJRT-TV/ABC12, the ABC station in Flint, Michigan a Technical Media Producer.

The Technical Media Producer has the general responsibility for directing live or pre-recorded productions as assigned, monitoring station's on-air signals, transmitter, and FCC logs, and ingesting daily programming and commercials. Regular assignments will involve directing specific newscasts, operate equipment in master control automation, various productions, and various elements for the web channel. We’re seeking candidates who have a well-rounded knowledge of covering collegiate, local and professional sports; the ability to produce sportscasts and sports programming; and the ability to go beyond highlights and produce thoughtful and relevant sports feature packages; and the ability to coach and develop others in the sports department.  We’re looking for a leader. 

Ensures that all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality. Candidates should have a solid track record of covering sports as well as a proficiency using Avid and news computer systems.  

This position also requires that the candidate be a self-starter, adaptable to change and possess the ability to manage schedules, making story assignments, arranging travel, and managing sports content on website and other social media.

The position will include occasional weekend shifts and requires the candidate to have the ability to travel.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Produces and presents sports reports for all platforms.
  • Writes and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise manner.
  • Assists in writing, editing, researching, coordinating sports programming and other content as needed.
  • Responds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
  • Works closely with the sports team to develop comprehensive sports coverage.
  • Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
  • Superior on-air presence with at least 5+ years as Sports Anchor/Reporting
  • Supervising experience guiding, directing, and motivating others.
  • Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
