JOB SUMMARY

The Assignment Editor assists in overseeing the news/content gathering on-air and online. Lead content gathering on a daily basis. Work hand-in-hand with Producers/Reporters in gathering/disseminating content in daily newscasts / online. Oversee field crews and helps to mentor/coach them daily. Strong news background required. Work with Producers to help them organize and assemble the coverage plan for the day and the future. Research, develop, and assign news stories and help lead the assignment desk. Monitoring police/fire scanners as well as news tips.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work/assist with planning of staffing and logistics to cover daily news and special projects.
  • Work with Reporters/Producers to produce compelling and creative coverage on-air and online.
  • Assist in making calls to news sources as needed, gaining appropriate and actionable information.
  • Assist in finding stories with emphasis on brand points.
  • Manage Reporters and their daily assignments.
  • Coordinate severe weather and breaking news coverage.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Broadcast or newspaper experience of at least three years is strongly preferred. This is not an entry level position.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing or orally with accuracy. Possess working knowledge of television technology.
  • Ability to stay current with national and local news/weather.
  • Responds to breaking events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
  • Works closely with the team to develop comprehensive coverage.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant News Director assists the News Director with all aspects of news, weather, and sports programming production, and serves as the News Director in his/her absence. Assist in overseeing and leading all aspects of daily news operations including organization of targeted content; analyze audience research; work effectively with creative services, sales, production, and other departments. Hands-on leader who can grow ratings and grow content on all platforms. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in managing all aspects of News Department including recruit, coach, train, inspire, and mentor.

JOB SUMMARY:
WJRT is looking for a leader. The Executive Producer must be a proven newsroom leader who knows how to execute content strategy and also win breaking news and weather coverage on all platforms, maintain a strong sense of urgency with our newscast production and newsroom culture, and knows how to balance serious journalism with lighter moments critical to the success of our newscasts. The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for newscasts or local programs, including oversight on story selection, content, and production, ensuring that the station is competitive within the market.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages newsroom content and showcasing across multiple platforms, to improve the quality of our product and the growth of our audience as measured by ratings and analytics.
  • Collaborates with producers, field crews, content coordinators, anchors, and other managers to select stories for coverage.
  • Oversees and edits writing for all platforms, including stories, newscast teases, web headlines and social posts.
  • On occasion, will produce newscasts.
